Definitely a locals restaurant. We spent many hours just walking around Praia and seeing what was there. We passed this small restaurant on the corner a couple blocks up from the waterfront. We had seen many people going in on other days so we decided...to try it. We almost walked out because of the smoky atmosphere. There was one gentlemen waiter and he did speak English. Upon entering, there were about a dozen seat tables with about being utilized. Within minutes of our arrival, the place was FULL! There were a few woman dressed business casual, workmen in jumpsuits and a few in traditional suits as well as casual button shirts. When most of them arrived, waved hello to him, he brought them a beverage – obviously their “usual” because some had water and some had sodas. He offered us a menu and told us that they have a different special every day. Today’s special for only was pork steak with salad and vegetables. I chose the special and was very pleased with the two ¼” thick that were about X inch in size. They were cooked with olive oil, garlic and spices. It was excellent. I was very disappointed when I received my plate to find large white potatoes on it. I expected the broccoli, cauliflower carrots I saw on a platter nearby. My husband ordered the hamburger – super large roll but nothing to rave about re: the hamburger itself. We returned a second time to check on the special and it was a beef stroganoff so we chose to stroll on and find a different place for lunch.
