Snack Bar Restaurante Retiro Dos Cacadores

This restaurant defines hidden gem. With the appearance of a snack bar this Tardis-like venue includes a big enough restaurant and a proprietor with an even bigger personality. We have eaten here many times and never been disappointed. On this occasion the fresh dourada was again grilled to perfection, scoring a rare ten out of ten, and we have eaten a lot of dourada. The house wine is serviceable and at a total bill of €27 for the two of us as good value as is imaginable. I love this place.

My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for several years now and we can always count on a great meal that’s excellent value. It’s a family run restaurant and the food is very typical Portuguese food found in this part of the Algarve. The front of the place appears to just be a cafe/bar but go through and you will find a cozy restaurant in the back. We love the house steak, the presa (black pork loins), and the bbq chicken but I always see the locals enjoying the seafood (we aren’t big seafood lovers). My kids demand we eat here at least twice in our yearly week stay. They’d make us come every night if we let them! Although the owner doesn’t speak English, we always manage. His daughter and another young lady that works there speak good English so there’s usually help in the area if needed. I recommend this place if you’d like a nice change from the tourist restaurants you might find in the area. And save room for dessert; they are all amazing!

Fantastic food great price. Great servings and super tasty home cooked food. They were really busy on the Spanish public holiday but the owner did an extraordinary job! He’s a lovely man too, was happy to explain although he was super busy. Super happy customers.. well done!

Ended up at this restaurant as we were hungry and on route to Mina, in Alentejo. We had a bitoque, which was delivered in a timely manner and was delicious. The staff looked as if it was a family run restaurant. From the outside it looks like a cafe but has a large dinning room at the back. Our whole meal (2 of us) came to under 20€ and that was with wine and dessert and bagaso as well. This place is great value and delicious food.

We came across this little gem, because we were on our way to Mertola and we're starving. We were late for lunch 2.45pm so they very kindly agreed to do us a Bitoque each pork, egg, chips, rice and salad. It was served promptly and tasted delicious, washed down with wine and chocolate mousse. The whole bill came to under 20€ for both of us. From the outside looks like a small cafe, but inside at the back, is a large dinning area. I wouldn't hesitate to use this place again. So I thank the restaurant for staying open for us.

We have a villa at Castro Marim G&CC and have been here a few times for a quick dinner. It is a family run restaurant with the Grandmother cooking and very nice gentlemen who served you. We usually have the traditional starter of cheese bread sardines paste and then a litre of wine and a main course and usually get charged around €10 each amazing value This is a fab place and is highly recommended if you can find it !
