Restaurante Santo André

one night past this place and decided to book a reservation for the following night outside. regretted this decision when it came to eat. my otopus was tasteless and gummy, cartoffels burned. my family got fried huh, that was, just tasteless greasy huh, and everything was good. the prices are extremely high for the quality of the food served here. very poor!

this is a hidden gem. I ate there twice and will go again. sardine and heavy fish should die. there was Fado night with three brilliant ladies giving an unforgettable performance. they had a tip-based and they had only one. big tipp, because they were so wonderful. they had two men with gitarren.

disappointing visit for a lunch on the afternoon. mixed grilled fish plate was quite cold, although we were almost the only guests. should have reviewed the reviews first.

After a few years in Portugal, my experience at Santo Andre restaurant has been the worst anyone can expect. In my opinion, this restaurant is not even worthy of one star and here is why: Once the waiter arrived with the order of shrimps, my...friend and I noticed a foul smell (there isn't anything more obvious than spoiled seafood). The shrimps also looked undercooked. I had a taste that only confirmed my initial observation so I politely returned the plate and was met with hostility from the waiter who returned the plate stating that all was fresh. The waiter and the manager did not take the constructive feedback kindly and stubbornly repeated that all was fresh (even though admitting to the fact that it came out of their freezer). I am disappointed by the lack of professionalism, respect and the attempt to deny an obvious fact. I do not recommend.

It’s one of those kinda of places one would like to support and praise (was just up the road from our hotel). But they make it very hard. The items that require reheating or unpacking (olives, fishcakes, cheese) are palatable. Anything that needs cooking is...beyond the capabilities of the staff there. And they straight out cheat- my ‘swordfish’ was a bony, meatless carcass that hadn’t even swam anywhere near an actual swordfish! It was nasty. The fado is very informal and ‘homely’, not exactly inspiring but would be good enough for a pleasurable evening if not the culinary offence happening alongside it. Avoid, unless you stick to wine and olives and want to listen to some music. Still, better to get a CD and a sandwich in a supermarket. Honestly.

Local, typical portuguese restaurant. Few tourist, mostly locals. Fado was included and the music and singing was wonderful! Everyone was clapping and joined in the chorus. The food was delicious, we had the bacalhau com natas and a glass of ginginha for dessert. The red...wine was superb, the waiters efficient and friendly. I would love to come back!
