Porto is a beautiful city. It is even more beautiful if you visit Graham's Port Lodge and then Vinum Restaurant and Wine Bar.The tour of the port lodge was informative and very interesting... seeing the cats and barrels and even vintage ports in the cellar. The tastings were perfect and a nice varied selection of three ports. To begin with, it is a steep and twisted road to get to Graham's but also very enjoyable.Of course you can take a taxi as well. The views are amazing ... red tiled roofs and the river in view. The restaurant Vinum's takes perfect advantage of the view and all the fresh food that Porto offers. One can sit outside on the terrace and enjoy the view with drinks or go inside the coveted terrace for lunch/ dinner and enjoy the view. the terrace has windows that swing open so you can feel a gentle breeze! The service is impeccable. Rui, the Maitre, watches over the restaurant and is there to help you with your order or answer any questions you might have. The menu has everything fresh and uses the best sources to ensure the best ingredients. Both my husband and I had the fish soup. A beautiful aromatic broth with pieces of fish including some shrimp. The soup was served in a large clay pot and placed in the center of the table- you can be sure we had seconds! The bread was the perfect accompaniment- it is made on the premises and is very crusty but soft in the inside. Graham's own olive oil is presented with the bread as well.My husband had the duck which had Six Grapes reduction sauce which he said was delicious. I ordered the halibut which had several clams on top and ratatouille on the side. Very light and delicious. For dessert, my husband had the apple tart and I had the pineapple soaked in Graham's 20 tawny port with coconut ice cream- this was a beautiful combination. We also had some truffles with port- tea and latte. We enjoyed the meal, the atmosphere, the service, the view so much we went again the next day! If that doesn't tell you how great Vinum's is... I don't know what else will.(My only comment is that the tea is in tea bags and should be loose tea choices for such attention to detail)
