Tasquinha do Fumo

Six of us went there for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon at the suggestion of our friend Tony Smth from Quinta De Covela. It is a little tricky getting there but it was well worth the drive. The owner spoke no English so we just communicated with nods and gestures and everything worked out just fine. He brought us a series of meats and vegetables which were all delicious. First off, we were served a basket of bread and cured meat (ham I believe) and some marinated leeks. Then a fish course with potatoes and onions. The first two courses were very good but they definitely saved the best for last. We had smoked pork ribs, grilled steak, rice and potatoes. The meat was perfectly cooked and had a great smokey flavor.This place is a great place to enjoy some local cuisine and a great price. Control freaks should stay away...even if you do speak Portuguese. They don't have a written menu. No sauces....no condiments...no fussy service. Just good food and wine.

A superb really traditional restaurant in the middle of nowhere, between Porto and the Douro - it is at the end of a dirt track, no signs, no menu, no website, and we still had to book over a month in advance! No gas or electric cookers either - just wood and coals, which gives a great flavour to the food. Even the coffee is brewed on the coals in clat pots.Make sure you phone and book in advance - they need warning to prepare the food, and it is often fully booked well in advance. Choice was lamb, huge beef steaks, pork or a whole chicken cooked in it's own blood - not a place for veggies! Also with ham, sausages, alheira, bolinhas de bacalau and delicious corn bread for starters. With their own wine, and coffee, this all came to €20 each.About an hour from Porto or Regua, a really good option for something different and really good. Good luck getting here without GPS though - there are no signs to the restaurant. The area around the restaurant is nicely paved, but the last few km to arrive here is a dirt track.

I was here because the people say that was wonderfull. I dont see anything wonderfull. The food was regular, the people are regular. I saw 3 or 4 guys drinking wine in the kitchen, but honestly is not my SPOT.

The best place to experience the country side food, this is a place for die-hard meat lovers, all kinds of meat. The food is slowly cooked on wooden fired furnaces. Don't miss the sponge cake desert and the coffee brewed on hot embers. This place is in the "middle of no-where", access is via a dirt road, be sure to use the GPS.

One of the best restaurants that I have eaten at. Everything is good starting with the appetizers and ending with dessert. I recommend this place to everyone!

Everyone should visit this place. Traditional food at its best. In our case, we ordered in advance so it was made specially for us. Everything so fresh!Fantastic food and ambiance. Our friends from Covela arranged for us to have dinner at Tasquinha do Fumo during our visit. There were six of us, and we had an amazing time! This restaurant is very authentic, and the family who runs it speak only Portugese. So, we had our friend arrange in advance things for us to try. We just sat down and let the chef bring us whatever they thought we should try - and we loved it!! Authentic, family-style Portugese food, including the best lamb we have ever tasted. Lots of interesting sausages, and meals we would have never thought to order or try if we didn't just trust our hosts. This place is hard to find, you feel like you are heading to the middle of nowhere up the mountain (we went in the dark), but when we arrived, it was full of young locals enjoying the great food. The building is old brick and fun, with the smokepit and kitchen in the center room. Very simple - it is all about the food! And, the most inexpensive meal we had in all of Portugal!!
