We were back home in Estoi, and we chose this place for one of our nights. After we reached the way around the Duro river roads we reached our goal of Tua. We checked and informed our hotel that the Oldtimer steam train arrived every minute and it was a must. We went over the routes to Tua Mercearia and ordered some drinks and waited for the train. Amazingly in the afternoon the passengers looked off and danced around the station to the music played by a whole female band, they finally disappeared again on the train that left the station so quietly as before they arrived. We ate in Tua Mercearia, the food was amazing, the staff was very friendly and the prices were not expensive. We had a great evening and would recommend Tua Mercearia and this fascinating area for a stay.

After driving for hours through the Douro, we found our hotel in this tiny town- with the Tua train station right across the street- and Tua Mercearia opposite us. We sat outside and had delightful Sangria, a charcuterie plate which was wonderful. There are only a few trains each day. Lots of locals. Wonderful.
We were travelling back to our home in Estoi, and we picked this location for one of our over night stays. After winding our way around the Duro river roads we reached our destination of Tua. We checked into our hotel and were informed that the vintage steam train was arriving any minute and it was a must see. We went across the tracks to Tua Mercearia and ordered some drinks and waited for the train. Amazing afternoon watching the passengers disembark and dance around the station to the music played by an all female band, they all eventually disappeared back on the train leaving the station as tranquil as before they arrived. We ate at Tua Mercearia, the food was amazing, the staff were very friendly and the prices were not expensive. We had a great evening, and would recommend Tua Mercearia and this intriguing area for a stay.
The cafe is simple and serves delicious food made with top class ingredients, thoroughly recommend the board of local specialities.
After waiting for one hour, we just decided to leave as no one had come to take our order. At the same time, some people who had arrived at the table next to ours were served immediately. We are afraid that this is because we are not Portuguese speakers. A couple sitting next to us left also shortly after us for the same reason. So so so disappointed by such a lack of respect and such rudeness. This is just disgraceful.
First you wonder what you will find here, just behind the Western Style Tuw train station. We did a walk a long the river and took the train to Pinão. Food is simple but great…. And very reasonably priced. Better than most places in we visited
We stayed at casa do Tua and had dinner at Tua mercearia. Lovely traditional place, the food was excellent and very generous portions at a very good price. The staff is very nice and helpful!
Delicious! Spicy chicken wings: perfect! Mushrooms in Port wine: outstanding! Service excellent, prices very reasonable. If you visit Tua, this is the place to eat. It is a tapas bar but the portions are very generous and a menu is available in English. Highly recommended!
