this was one of the best meal times we have eaten in whole portugal! each plate was a culinary joy. our guides of our portugalbike tour encouraged us to dine here and we are so glad that they did. the atmosphere is picturesque and historical and. the owner a joy. I highly recommend it.

interesting restaurant in an old prison. interesting history and good eating. However, there was only one waiter for the whole restaurant, which was at about 60% capacity and that meant that the service was sloouuw. we had another date and after almost. an hour waiting for our starters, we had to rush through them and the net! will try again, but hopefully they have more than one waiter!

very good restaurant, but even better service, we loved the conversation with lady that serves us. the menu was expensive. interesting representation in the former prison. a lot of character.

this restaurant is just a few meters from the castle square. take the tor next to the pousada of estremoz and they will see it on the right side. we were there during the midday to visit around. first we surpassed a cadeia quinhentista when we wanted to see another restaurant in the city that we did not try out because its prices on the menu outside were very high for portugal. after that we decided to return to a cadeia quinhentista, which also has good commentaries and the prices outside were good! and we were glad that we did! our lunch was an amazing one! that is a prison that is converted into restaurant. the device and the ambiente are cozy with warm lighting and colors. the girl that served us was super friendly and professional! the menu is traditional Portuguese. I had the pataniscas de bacalhau (cook fish fritters) with aromatic minze rice. I was amazed how something fried can include so many aromes. I had also tried the meat court of my friend and was also worried! In addition, we had a cheese from the region to begin with brot and wein. our lunch is done with a coffee. we wanted to try their desserts desperately, but that would be too much after this meal. the prices are very reasonable. this restaurant has a day a star of us for the return in alentejo and around estremoz. I highly recommend it. Just go!

I gave A Cadeia a big thumbs up review on another site two days ago. We went back last night for another outstanding meal. Unique setting in a 500 year old jail exudes charm. Margarida and the rest of the staff couldn’t have been more...helpful with food selection, even recommended restaurants to try in our next stop, Évora. The Chicken Curry was good enough to have twice. The Black Pork in Pastry was exceptional. Last night I tried the Golden Cod, really a Bacalão a Bras traditional dish...minced cod with shredded potatoes and egg to hold it together. It was the best I have ever had...out of this world! Above the restaurant is a trendy bar in the women’s part of the jail. Worth having a drink there before dinner.

The menus is very extensive, food beautifully serviced up by very attentive people. Building an old jail from 16th century. Atmosphere brilliant

Went with cycling group of 12. Very enjoyable, tasty food. I thoroughly devoured the lamb. Ruben gets a shout out for his wonderful personality, knowledge of wine and food, and conscientious attention to our group. The owner was a very nice, amiable guy too. Not...certain about pricing as the meal was included in the cycling trip cost. Drinks and appetizers were presented at the bar upstairs. Dinner was in the dungeon (note to self: if every incarcerated, request this place).

The restaurant used to be the castle Jail so its an interesting space to be eating though very comfortable now! Service was attentive, food was delivered promptly and it was good and plentiful. Wine list was good featuring many excellent local wines.
