We came to the Sol dos Nunes restaurant for dinner. We ate Iberico ham as starter with delight The gin tonic I had as an aperitif was decent, although not a new discovery from a selected distillery. Here we would have expected more choice from an established restaurant with a Bib Gourmand recommendation. The same goes for the non-existent selection of open wines, where the restaurant only offers a white and a red house wine, which were, however, tasty. In this respect, too, it is long past time for an upmarket restaurant not to offer several open wines to address different tastes. While we were still very taken with the Iberico ham as a starter, this unfortunately changed with the main courses, both of which came to the table beautifully presented. This applies to both the octopus Alentejo-style and the Alentejo-style partridge escabeche Based on the commentary in the Guide Michelin, we assumed that the restaurant would prepare Portuguese classics from excellent ingredients in a very aromatic and solidly crafted manner. However, the octopus was not cooked uniformly soft and lacked herbs. Instead, there was no lack of plenty of olive oil, which garlic and herbs would have done well and helped make the octopus much more delicious. The small jacket potatoes served with it also lacked any spice. The partridge had a little more flavour variety, but was otherwise a little dry and the meat's own flavour didn't really come through. It was served with both potato and toasted bread slices, which looked tasty but didn't stand out with any particular seasoning After this main course, which was disappointing for both of us, things fortunately picked up considerably at the end. The orange cake was delicious and the chocolate mousse with salted caramel and fleur de sel also tasted really good. It should be noted, however, that the translations of the Portuguese names of the dishes were apparently inadequate. This was shown by the fact that the chocolate mousse was called chocolate cheesecake, which the waiter corrected when asked before ordering After our dinner, we cannot share the comment that the restaurant continues to offer the same friendly and professional service delighting guests’ palates with the finest Alentejo dishes and flavours
