Stopped here for lunch after visiting the Palace and cathedral. PIcked this place because it was packed with people that didn't speak English and that seemed like a very good sign. Only one waiter spoke English, and we had to wait till he was available. Not that it helped much! Wife ordered a mixed salad, which was good but the tomatoes were not as ripe and sweet as they have been elsewhere. My father tried to order a steak but got a tuna steak, not beef. It was ok, but seemed a little fishy to me, not the best tuna I've tried. My mother and I thought we were ordering a mixed Pork grill. Instead we both got grilled beef. Not the best cut either, lots of gristle. But it was tasty despite being well-done. Beef came with french fries (Portuguese style -- not very crisp), rice and bread stuffing. Tuna came with boiled carrots and green beans and boiled potatoes. They had a wine list on the menu but that didn't seem to matter. The waiter was interested in bringing a specific bottle of red wine, so that is what we got. Wasn't great, but wasn't awful and only 8.50 for the bottle. Part of the adventure was that half the restaurant was a group that seemed to be a choir or something like that (at least 40 people). Throughout the meal the whole group would break out in song for several minutes at a time. Was different -- in a good way. Service was fine despite having such a large group in the restaurant with us. So live music and an English speaking waiter who couldn't translate the menu well...travel is all about adventure, right?
