Restaurante Manta Mar

I eat out, almost daily, here in the Algarve and very regularly in Manta Rota. Tonight was my first time to visit Restaurante Manta Mar, under it's new and spectacular management of Maria and her team. I was warmly welcomed into this oasis of tranquility in the centre of Manta Rota. The menu is varied and I was thrilled to find a choice of vegetarian options. I started with goat's cheese, drizzled with honey and fine herbs. I followed this with a Greek Salad, probably the best that I have ever had, including those that I have eaten in Greek restaurants. The accompanying yogurt-based sauce was fantastic. The quality of the presentation was first class. Worthy of a restaurant with much higher prices. I was also impressed with the wine selection and, in particular, with the choice of half-bottles. Not only that, the red wines were available at a selection of temperatures. I paid a few cents more than €20 for my food, a very nice half-bottle of red wine, lots and lots of water and a superb coffee to complete a most enjoyable experience. I must also mention that the background music was really good without being in the least bit overpowering. I will return, and often. Do yourself a favour and try it. Thank you Maria. Beijinhos

Maria, the proprietor of this restaurant since May of this year is producing very good food at very competitive prices. I was particularly impressed with her Tiborna of Goats Cheese and honey - which had wonderful flavours (including Rosemany) - a wonderful starter. I was delighted to see a vegetarian option on the main course and when we went back a second night she made a very tasty mushroom omelette to order - my wife tried the Pork and potatoes the first night and the estepada (skewer) chicken the second night. The homemade ice-cream was wonderful. We really enjoyed our interaction with the proprietor. There was a constant willingness to satisfy the customer.On our second night two ladies wanted chicken breast but she only had the estepada chicken so she actually went across the road to the supermarket and got chicken breasts and cooked them! This restaurant is one to watch climbing the league table...it is the type of restaurant which was badly needed in Manta Rota. Just next door is the popular Mars Restaurant but Maria's Manta Mar will, I believe give it a run for its money. Maria believes in giving good service, tasty food and value for money - what more could you ask for?

This is a sweet, familiar and nice Restaurant! The food is very, very tasty and Maria absolutely lovely! We felt so good when we ate here and had a big, great conversation with Maria. Even when we came at 21:30 o'clock, she gave us a three-course menu and was very careful to make us happy (and she did. We checked 90% of the restaurants in Manta Mar, but this was the best, because of her nice nature and the tasty food!! She asks about 5 times, if everything's okay and if you are happy and you can always say yes, because it is tasty, nice and homelike. If Maria Mar's would be in cologne, I'd go there every day. When you go there, check the tuna fish and the Shrimps out, the best shrimps I ever ate! Thank you for the nice time with you, Maria!! It was a pleasure to meet you! ❤️

Domingo, às 18h, voltando da praia, tentei pessoalmente reservar uma mesa para quatro pessoas para o jantar. no primeiro andar e uma senhora perguntou se poderíamos reservar mesa para as 20;00 horas. agora a surpresa: nenhuma resposta disponível. apenas uma mulher sentada no final da sala, fumando um cigarro, ousou virar a cabeça para a direita e para a esquerda novamente. Então, se quiserem ir a esse suposto restaurante, não precisam conversar, apenas aprendem a entender as manchetes. pior lugar em manta rota.

nem mesmo o problema, este é o pior restaurante que estive nos últimos 20 anos. pelo menos! carne horrível e de baixa qualidade, grelhada junto com peixe, então mesmo que esqueçam a má qualidade, o sabor é muito ruim. ainda nem comemos metade. do que foi servido. eles caem e vão para outro lugar.

the frango de churrasco (drilled chicken) was dry and burned, tipical when they did the huh again. also the karapau (fish) was not good.

had no high expectations to this restaurant, so was not excessively disappointed. usual Portuguese cuisine at a reasonable price, but not very well cooked. the portions are very small in comparison to other restaurants near, so not so much money. half a hun was a chicken quarter. only 3 lulas, while a nearby restaurant would give them 6 for the same price. ok, it is nice to sit on the terrace and watch the people in the middle of manta rota, but would recommend there are better possibilities near.
