Ponta Romana

This genial, family run underground cavern accommodates anyone from a solitary figure, of limited means enjoying a vegetable soup to a celebration banquet of suckling pig and whole salmon, goat stew and shellfish caldeirada. The dish of the day is always splendid value, especially the fish, whether homely carapaus or regal dourada.Avoid the house wine by the carafe, it tends to be thin and acidic: any wine from the Alentejo is cheap and delicious. You might also experience drowned carrots, potatoes and cabbage: they must have been advised by my grandma. Salad is fresh and delicious, chips crisp and plentiful.The prices are a wonder, as is the welcome. Anibal, the proprietor, seems to be constantly on the go and to sustain an endlessly extended family, to which you may briefly belong on your visit. Gaze outside the window at the back and view a pig happily asleep beneath an orange tree.

Lovely restaurant in great surroundings. I can truly recommend the steak! Friendly staff with a decent level of English, which was handy due to our inability to converse in their language. Plenty of food at a bargain price. Two beers, two cokes, two steak meals and one pork meal, all for €22! Will definitely visit again.

Top grub. Always fresh and cheap. Full of locals knowing they are on to a good thing. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Love it!

Her får du tradisjonell portugisisk mat og også annen europeisk mat for de som vil ha det. God service og vennlig personale. Spisesalen kan være noe støyende når det er mye mennesker tilstede.

Take a nice walk over the old Roman bridge and go here for dinner if you're in the Silves area. It is typically Portuguese and has a friendly atmosphere. The price is very reasonable and the house red wine is really nice - order it by the litre or half, instead of buying a bottle. I had the pork and clams which was so tasty if a little greasy! Will definitely go back next time we're in Portugal.

Restaurante, situado á beira da ponte Romana de Silves, casa bonita por fora. Restaurante no interior um bocado caótico. Distribuição de mesas, em duas salas, uma para fumadores outra para não fumadores. Comida típica Algarvia, muito bem confeccionada, bons produtos. Serviço familiar e simpático. Boa garrafeira. Serviço de refeição rápido.

I have eaten here a few times over the past 10 years the food is very Portuguese and the ambience is nice especially in the winter with the log fire. There are some seriously steep steps to get down to the dining area which is very old wordly and parking along the old bridge can be a problem in the summer but to be fair Silves car park is only a few minutes walk away... always spaces there now they moved the camper vans elsewhere. As already mentioned very traditional food nicely cooked and service is okay until it gets busy when two waiters struggle a bit. The fish is always presented well and fresh tasting I would certainly visit again if in the area.
