We went to Horta tonight as a family of 12 as my in laws live here. We have been going there for over eight years and tonight I was shocked. We went early as we were a big group and was told they would not put two tables together to accommodate us and we would need to sit separate!!!! The place was empty. We won't be going back there. Think they have forgotten that once tourist session is over its people like us that keep there business going. Won't be going back there again!!! We left straight away and went to another local restaurant which was excellent!!!!

By the roadside with a children's play park and a massive dusty car park the Horta is obviously very popular. One vegetarian dish only on the menu - omelette. Meat eaters heaven the dishes we saw all looked to be very generous portions. Garlic prawns for the non-vegetarian were overcooked but reasonably tasty but better in other establishments close by. Only had one course as only omelette available for vegetarian partner. Quick meals at a reasonable price - hence its popularity.
consistently good, consistently busy and very cheap as well. went 3 times on this holiday, opens at 7 get there early to choose your table or even get a table !. Garlic prawns to start is a must. not had a bad meal there in 4 years.
Arrived early about 1900 as it opens then had a seat outside any later after 2000 you might get a seat, we were of 5 people it started to get pretty full with the locals they also had a local Portuguese dance group entertain us during meal local folk dance and music we even had to join in it was just by luck we were at the right place at the right time.The meals are plentiful delicious basically cooked mostly over a char grill I would opt for the kebabs u get one massive skewer jammed with meat and prawns /wee salad and chips as with all meals there and very reasonable have to try the black pork steaks really flavoursome from the black pig , for dessert you go into resteraunt and choose from the fridge and the will get it for you and to finish go for a double espresso beautiful Or mor wine or beer for all of us wine /beers 6 meals and sweet and coffee €54.
We arrived at 1945, which is pretty early for dinner by Portuguese standards. The big parking lot was almost full and we felt like it would take forever to get some food. We had a table inside and were told it would take a bit of time to be served. We agreed as we knew it was bound to happen. But the waiter was honest about it and it checks as a positive thing in my book.One hour later we were served and we were very pleased with the food. Quality was fine and it was plenty. the only advise is to get there early or after the crowd, at around 2100.Well worthwhile.
We came to Horta twice during our 4 nights stay in Sao Bras as we had one of the best dinners during our 10 day stay in Portugal there. It was a recommendation of our local host. The food tastes super good, big portions to a very reasonable price. If you stay in Sao Bras you definitely have to stop by!
This is a great place to visit for families or couples. It provides a good value meal and the garlic prawns are outstanding. Service can be a little slow on occasion, however it's worth persevering. Definitely worth a visit.
Having read a few reviews we decided to pay Horta a visit and weren't disappointed. The food is so reasonably priced and the portion size is excellent. On the night we visited it was extremely busy (with tourists as well as locals....which is always a good sign) so if you don't mind a bit of a wait we'd highly recommend this place. We'll definitely be back a few times before our holiday is over.
