Please note I erroneously submitted this review for a similar sounding restaurant which I’ve now deleted and I want to post the review for the restaurant we actually ate at. We are (were) staying at the Hotel Porto Santa Maria right in the heart of the Old Town so we have eaten locally most nights. We visited this restaurant the last time we stayed in Funchal two years so we already had experience and decided to go again. In all, we ate here three nights out of our ten nights because it was so good and the staff were super lovely and very accommodating. First time my husband had the huge calzone and I had tagliatelle- both delicious. Second time he chose the steak on a stone and I once again had the tagliatelle- it was so good! I didn’t realise they did salmon on a stone so we resolved to go back on our last night. Which we did, and once again we’re treated very well. The quality of the steak was excellent and it meant that he could cook it to his preference. It also means your food never goes cold! Two times there were singers and musicians in the square and it really added to the ambience and enjoyment. The middle time we had a big rainstorm but we were quite dry under the huge umbrellas. Fortunately, we had only a few yards to get back to our hotel. We both highly recommend this lovely little restaurant which is popular with tourists and locals alike. It’s right outside the quant little church in a beautiful square. It’s a very romantic setting with excellent food and service and very friendly and professional staff. If you don’t go you’ll never know…
