Saca Rolhas Wine

Having arrived at our original (reserved) restaurant only to find that it was closed and never called us (nearby Tribeca), we stumble upon this cozy, unassuming wine bar. The owner offered us a table and assisted with the Portuguese menu. He suggested some wines from which we picked and set upon deciding what to eat (our host was good enough to tell us when he thought we had ordered too much — and he was right). The food was delicious — perfectly cooked chorizo, a Francesinha, a Portuguese sandwich that was new to us, and other delicacies. At the end of our meal, the owner, learning it was our 25th anniversary, shared with us some brandy on the house. A great night.

We visited here as a family of five on a two week visit to the area. We actually visited three times although the first was just for drinks. The 2nd and 3rd times we had tapas including, chorizo, cod salad, mushroom in garlic and butter, fries, ham and pickles, prawns and the house special: the franciscino sandwich comprising of steak, chorizo, ham and sausage, topped with melted cheese and covered with a sauce to die for. With excellent wine wine, gorgeous white wine, enough local brandy to wash the meal down with and fabulous service from owner Joao, we also had a well priced bill to end with. We all agreed we had one of the best meals in this area. Thanks Joao for some wonderful evenings!

We were a group of five and decided to leave the selection of dishes to the proprietor and were not disappointed. Prawns, baked cheese, chorizo sausage and Francisco sandwich presented well and quite delicious. In addition to our meal we ordered beer wine and mineral water all for around 50 Euro which represented excellent value for money. Our host spoke excellent English and had a pleasant engaging manner. Excellent evening and highly recommend.
